Another day where I forgot my journal so I have to make stuff up/try to remember what I did this week.
Ah yes of course. This week we had Zone Conference, as transfers happened the week before. Presidente Valim directed the meeting, the focus of which was finding new interested people, to combat the declining numbers of new investigators.
I remember my first Zone Conference. So much has changed since then. Now I only cry every other day.
We met a crazy lady. We have seen her often, as she has a small stall where she sells handcrafted wooden items, and we walk past regularly. On Saturday we decided to talk to her, and discovered the craziness. She seemed unable to speak without dancing. I think she would make a great missionary.
Saturday evening we did some cooking in the chapel kitchen.
Using an ancient Brazilian recipe, we made...
Burnt Crunchy Things! Somehow the dough had burnt on the outside but was still uncooked on the inside. Did that stop us eating them? It did not.
We are being excellently fed here. My morning exercise routine has now become a daily battle to halt my rapidly advancing stomach.
One of my friends asked if I have gotten used to the heat yet. In a way, I guess. It is no less uncomfortable, but I have gotten used to being uncomfortably hot.
Sunset is when I come alive. The sky becomes a glorious display of colour and majesty. The clouds are so close you can see their depth and shape clearly, and they move so fast that the sky is constantly changing. Our crazy lady rhapsodised about the beauty of the Earth. Perhaps she is not that crazy.
Alma 30:44 "But Alma said unto him: Thou hast had signs enough; will ye tempt your God? Will ye say, Show unto me a sign, when ye have the testimony of all these thy brethren, and also all the holy prophets? The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator."
Elder Godivala [Edit from Madre: He doesn't cry every other day. I checked. -_- ]
"Gotten" is more archaic (and therefore in my view preferable) to "got". It's also more grammatically consistent (think of forgotten and begotten) and so as an Americanism, it's a rare one that I actually like. It could in both instances here have been replaced with the more elegant "become". With regard to cooking procedures, Elder Godivala was marvelling that despite hardly using sun block he does not sunburn. He wondered if it was because of the humidity. I pointed out that when you steam meat it doesn't go brown like if you roast or grill it so we concluded that that was probably it.
It would appear that you have 'gotten' some new vocabulary outside your improving Spanish. The burnt dough balls were down to the oven being too hot....and bear in mind that what it says on the temperature knob may not be what it is in the oven, but I'm not advocating getting in to check.
